Sport England, formerly known as the English Sports Council, invest National Lottery and Exchequer funding in organisations and projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sports. They also work in partnership with UK Sport, which has responsibility for elite success, and the Youth Sport Trust, which is focused on PE and school sport.

The Youth Sport Trust is a registered charity, established in 1994 to build a brighter future for young people by enhancing the quality of their physical education (PE) and sporting opportunities.

Commonwealth Games Council for England – www.cgce.co.uk

Commonwealth Games England is responsible for the preparation and participation of the England Team in the Commonwealth Games. The CGE is a member of the Commonwealth Games Federation who have overall responsibility for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games.

DCMS provides significant funding for sports provision, improving the quantity and quality of sporting opportunities at every level, from the playground to the podium. Their aim is to encourage wider participation in sport, helping to create a more active nation through sport and improve performance.

Sport Northern Ireland (formerly the Sports Council for Northern Ireland) aims to develop sport from grass-roots to elite standard and has a close relationship with its equivalent organisations in England, Scotland and Wales, as well as the UK Sports Council.

The Sports Council for Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and active lifestyles. It is the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Assembly Government and is responsible for distributing funds from the National Lottery to sport in Wales.

Accountable to Parliament through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, UK Sport works in partnership with the home country sports councils and other agencies to lead sport in the UK to world-class success. UK Sport is responsible for managing and distributing public investment and is a statutory distributor of funds raised by the National Lottery.

Disability Sport Events (DSE) ensures that from grass roots level to international standard, disabled sportspeople can participate in sport. They are actively increasing sporting prowess from beginners, who want to develop their talent, to top British disabled sports people, who get high competition at their events.

Established in 1997, to tackle the under representation of people with disabilities in sport, , Disability Sports NI (DSNI) is Northern Ireland's main disability sports organisation and is representative of the vast majority of Northern Ireland's disability sports club's and organisations.

APT Charitable Trust - Disabled Flying - www.disabledflying.org.uk

The APT (Aviation for Paraplegics and Tetraplegics) Trust uses specially adapted Microlight aircraft to teach physically disabled people to fly. It operates from Old Sarum Airfield near Salisbury in Wiltshire.

British Blind Sport is a charity whose work enables visually impaired people to have the same opportunities as sighted people to access and enjoy sport and recreational activities in the UK.

The England Cricket Association for the Deaf (ECAD) provides support to deaf and hard of hearing cricketers. In deaf cricket, all communications on the field are conducted with lip-reading and basic sign language.

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) is responsible for developing sport for disabled people in England, working closely with the other national disability sports organisations.
