About Us
Getintothegame.co.uk (GITG) was launched in March 2010 by Paul Sweeny
and Warren Chandler.
Paul was a main tour snooker professional for 12 years and also
a club owner of Welling Snooker Centre, in Kent, for 4 years. To
this day Paul remains as a Grade A coach for World Snooker, the
world governing body of the sport, and continues to teach in various
parts of the world to promote and develop the game wherever possible.
Warren has over 25 years of martial arts experience under his belt,
but is mainly responsible for the technical aspects of the website.
Degree educated, Warren also manages a successful web design/consultancy
business, with a number of blue chip companies as his clients.
Our Goals
Our goals are to address three issues through continued development
of GITG.
Firstly, our aim is to assist national sports governing bodies
to develop and promote a greater level of grassroots participation
in their sport and help clubs to better inform their local communities
about the opportunities that they provide.
Secondly, as an owner of a local sports club for 4 years, Paul
discovered how expensive local promotion can be and hence how difficult
it was to attract new members to the club.
As he remembers, I must have spent quite a few thousand pounds
in my time at Welling Snooker Club in an effort to attract new members
to the club but with varied success. Whilst my established members
were the lifeblood of the club in terms of keeping it viable as
a going concern in the short-term, my ability to attract new members,
particularly juniors, had a direct correlation to the longer-term
prospects of the club. With GITG we hope to provide a medium through
which sports enthusiasts and participants can keep abreast of developments
within their local clubs and hence encourage increased participation
and involvement.
Finally, the aim of GITG is to serve as a central forum whereby
people can learn about how to get involved in a wide variety of
different sports, communicate with others who share similar interests,
follow the latest news and events from their local clubs, as well
as their sport in general, and find information to help them further
develop their skills through coaching articles and competition news.
We also strive to make the site to be a valuable resource for parents
with children who have taken a serious interest in a particular
sport and want to find out more about what is involved, and how
best to develop and encourage their interest as they progress.
All this and much more can be achieved for free by subscribing
to local clubs and accredited coaches from their applicable profile
pages, which in turn provides a live feed of their latest content
via the MY GITG option, available
to all registered users.
Club Owners and Coaches
If you own or manage a sports club, or you are an accredited sports
coach and wish to gain administrative access to your GITG profile
page, please contact us via our contact page.
Alternatively, find the applicable profile page via our search/find
a club options and follow the instructions contained within the
page itself (registration is required).
There is no cost to clubs or accredited coaches to administer or
upload content or information to their own profile page. Conversely,
if you find that your club is not listed on GITG please let us know
by using the Suggest a Club/Coach
tab on our home page so that we can add your club to the site immediately.
Thank you for visiting Get Into The Game, and we sincerely hope
it becomes a useful resource for you as we continue to develop and
improve every aspect of the website.
